Obituary for Allen Hays Jr.

Allen Hays Jr., age 73 of the Parlin section of Sayreville passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at his home. Born in Newark he was a lifelong Sayreville resident. He was the Owner and Operator of Hays Bicycle Shop in Morgan for 30 years and after his retirement from the shop he was employed by SIR Services in Manalapan for 8 years. He was an avid fisherman, he enjoyed working on cars and was always good at construction projects. Allen belonged to the Sayreville Seniors Thursday Club and was a US Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Allen was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will forever be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is predeceased by his parents Allen Sr. and Genieve, his daughter Sandy Striemer and his brother John Hays. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Shirley De Sarno Hays, his son Allen Hays III and his wife Laina of Bound Brook, his son-in-law Jim Striemer, his grandchildren Jimmy, Amanda and Zachary Striemer, Travis, Tyler, Marissa and Makayla Hays, his brother Kenneth Hays and his wife Christina and their son Kenneth Jr., his sister-in-law Meryl Hays and her children John and Julianna Hays and many cousins.

Funeral services will be held Monday 12pm at the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin with burial at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday from 2pm to 6pm. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, please note that a maximum of 100 visitors will be allowed inside the building at once and masks must be worn at all times. We encourage visitors to limit their time in the building to allow the family the maximum amount of guests possible. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you please “Give the Gift of Life” and donate a pint of blood in Allen’s honor.
