Obituary for Alice Mary Mulcahy

Alice  Mary  Mulcahy
Alice Mary Mulcahy, 85, of Millsboro, Delaware passed away on January 23, 2021 at her home after a brief illness.

Alice was born in Hazelton, Pennsylvania to the late Stephen and Helen (Malletz) Onifer. Alice later graduated in the class of 1953 from Hazel Township High School where she was a cheerleader.

After high school, Alice moved to New Jersey, where she met and married her sweetheart John (Jack) Mulcahy. They raised their three children in Parlin, New Jersey and later built their dream home in Howell, New Jersey. They were married for 29 years before his passing in 1988.

While raising her family, Alice worked in a number of jobs, such as waitress and school crossing guard. She was also a claims examiner for New England Life Insurance Company for many years.

Alice retired to Barefoot Bay, Florida where she made many friends and enjoyed socializing at the community pool, dancing, and going to the beach. In 2014, she settled with her daughter JoAnn, first in Sudbury, Massachusetts and later in Delaware.

Alice was a devout Catholic and had a close connection with the Catholic church. She enjoyed reading, watching game shows, and completing jigsaw puzzles. Alice had a passion for traveling and was blessed to have explored Hawaii, Mexico, Ireland and Paris; she also enjoyed sailing the seas on some of her favorite cruise ships. She loved animals, especially her “grand-puppies” Rocky and Julie and her cat Lily.

In addition to her husband, Alice is preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert Onifer.

She is survived by her children JoAnn Verderese and husband Bill of Millsboro, Delaware; Patricia Pyburn and husband Bill of Wall Township, New Jersey; John Mulcahy Jr and wife Ashley of Laurence Harbor, New Jersey; grandchildren Connor and Lexie Pyburn; brother Stephen Onifer and wife Lillian of New Freedom, Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews.

Private funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Carmen Spezzi Funeral Home in Parlin, New Jersey. Private interment will take place on February 12, 2021 at the New Calvary Cemetery in Parlin, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to The Food Bank of Delaware (fbd.org), Feeding America (feedingamerica.org), or another organization dedicated to ending hunger.
