Obituary for Helen L. Kosowski

Helen L. Kosowski
Helen Kosowski, 84, of Lawrenceville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton, with her loving family by her side.

A resident of Lawrenceville, NJ for nearly 60 years, Helen started her life in Belarus, as the daughter of an Orthodox Christian priest and his wife. After World War II, Helen’s family became refugees, and eventually immigrated to the United States.

At the age of 16, Helen attended Fairleigh Dickinson University where she majored in chemistry. She then attended Rutgers University and received a Masters degree in Library Science. As the Director of Library Operations for Bristol-Myers Squibb, Helen was innovative by being an early adopter of using computers to organize the corporate research library. After retirement, she helped introduce technology to organize the Lambertville Public Library, as its Director.

Helen, along with her father, the Very Reverend Nikolai Lapitzki, helped form the St. Euphrosynia Church in South River, NJ. Helen truly loved her church and to insure its success, she dedicated much of her life by being a member of the church’s board of directors, and by producing books which promoted the church and Belarusian culture. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Helen was predeceased by her parents, Rev. Nikolai and Walentina Lapitzki, and her husband of 53 years, Leon Kosowski. She is survived by her two beloved sons and their wives, Alex and Alexandria of Hamilton Square, NJ, and Nicholas and Marya of Boxborough, MA; four grandchildren, Jacob and Elena, Cole and Brody; her dear brother George Lapitzki; her nephews, Steven and Nicholas Lapitzki, and many other loving family members.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 10th at 9:30am from the M.A. Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Avenue, South River, with a 10am Mass at St. Euphrosynia Belarusian Church in South River. Burial will follow at St. Euphrosynia Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home will take place Friday, February 9th from 6pm to 9pm with Panaheida at 7pm. Letters of condolence, completed arrangements and directions may be found by visiting www.maliszewskifuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to St. Euphrosynia Belarusian Church, 284 Whitehead Ave, South River, NJ 08882.
