Obituary for Donald E Petersen
South River
Donald Petersen age 81 of South River passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 14, 2014 at RWJ Hospital, New Brunswick with his loving and devoted family at his side. Growing up Don attended Metuchen High School, NJ. Following High School Don enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Kentucky as a cook. Married at 21 to Joan Meszaros they settled in South River for the remainder of their lives. He owned "Don's Deli" in Sayreville, NJ and was a beloved figure of the old and young. Once retired he passionately served and operated the American Legion Post 214 in South River until he became ill at the age of 79 yrs old.
He is predeceased by his parents Clarence & Rose Petersen. Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Joan (Meszaros), his children and their spouses, Edward & Randi Petersen and Annmarie & Daniel Valenti as well as his beloved grandchildren Daniel & Mitchell Petersen and Joseph, Danny, & Elizabeth Valenti.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4pm to 8pm. Funeral services will be Thursday 9am at Corpus Christ Church in South River, NJ with an entombment at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick, NJ. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations in Donald’s name be made to The MDS Foundation 4573 South Broad St., Suite 150 Yardville, NJ 08620.
