Obituary for Norbert L Smith

Parlin
Norbert L. Smith age 79 of the Parlin section of Sayreville passed away peacefully on Sunday March 26, 2017 at his home with his devoted family at his side. Born in South River he has resided in Sayreville since 1961. Norbert was a graduate of Rutgers University with a BA in Education and an MA from Newark State Collage. He received varsity letters in Baseball and Light Weight Football and was a communicant of Our Lady of Victories R.C. Church in Sayreville. After graduation from collage he was employed at Saint Peter’s High School in New Brunswick for 2 years and then for the Sayreville Board of Education from 1962 until his retirement in 2002. While working at Sayreville War Memorial High School he was the Varsity Baseball Coach from 1971-1974, Middlesex County Coaches Association and Home News Tribune Coach of the Year in 1974, also coached freshman, jr. varsity and varsity baseball, track, soccer and cross country.

He is predeceased by his wife Carol Gilbert Smith in 2005 and his parents Timothy & Stephania Witkowski Smith. Surviving are his sons Brian Smith and his wife Maria Landolfi of Brick and David Smith of Point Pleasant Beach, his grandchildren Scott, Zhen, Gaetano, Sabina and Jude Smith, his brothers Robert Smith of New York City and Timothy Smith and his wife Alice of San Diego, Ca. and his brother & sister in law Carl & Betsy Gilbert of Hamilton Square.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday 8:45am from the funeral home followed by a 9:30am mass at Our Lady of Victories R. C. Church with burial to follow at New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin.
