Matthew A. Kurtz age 34 of Sayreville passed away Monday March 21, 2016 in Sayreville. Born in New Brunswick he was a lifelong Borough of Sayreville Resident. Matthew was a graduate of the University of Scranton with a BA in Criminal Justice. He joined the Borough of Sayreville Police Department in 2006 and was presently in the Detective Bureau. He received an award from the 200 Club for Valor, and several awards from PBA 98 for Meritorious Service. Matt was a member of Sayreville P.B.A. Local 98. He was a communicant of Saint Mary’s R. C. Church in South Amboy.

He is predeceased by his maternal grandfather Gerard Allen and his paternal grandmother Rosemary Kurtz. Surviving are his wife Jamie Mackiel Kurtz, his sons Matthew and Connor Kurtz, his parents Matthew “Ace” and Elizabeth “Liz” Kurtz of Sayreville, his sister and her husband Jennifer Kurtz and Eric Marchitelli of Long Branch, his nephew and niece Leo and Lucy Marchitelli, his brother Christopher Kurtz of Sayreville, his maternal grandmother Marge Allen his paternal grandfather LeRoy “Red” Kurtz both of South Amboy, his mother in law Ann Mackiel of Sayreville, his sister in law and her husband Tricia & Thomas Cassidy, and their children Taylor and Parker Cassidy, his brother in law Bernard Mackiel and fiancée Ashley Charmello and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Thursday 10:15am from the Maliszewski Memorial Home 121 Main Street Sayreville followed by an 11am Liturgy of The Word at Saint Mary’s R. C. Church in South Amboy with burial to follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, South Amboy.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Wednesday from 4pm to 7pm. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations in Matthew’s memory be made to Sayreville Association for Brain Injured Children 251 Jernee Mill Road, Sayreville N.J. 08872.
